The frisson of beginning anew
Twelve Tales celebrates the moment of taking on a blank canvas—whether it’s a literal blank painting canvas or some other form of tabula rasa, like a fresh piece of writing paper, an empty computer screen, a new recording session, or an as-yet-unshaped block of wood or mound of clay. No matter the method, the moment of beginning anew invites visceral sensation, sometimes familiar, sometimes newfound, always of the moment.
Art workshops are one way to feel the frisson, to become well acquainted with that threshold—that moment when possibility becomes action.
Be kind—make meaning
We find meaning in the things the world shows us. We make meaning when we create things to show the world.
Art workshops are one way to refine the abilities to find and make meaning. They bring the added pleasure of getting the work done in the company of others who share our pursuit of meaningfulness.
Process
Twelve Tales centers the analogue arts. For the fun of it.
And also to maintain a practice centered around humans gathered together in real time with physical tools used in real time to create stories considered in real time.
Narrative Strategies
Twelve Tales workshops are organized around central themes taken from narrative theory. These tiny excerpts from theory energize the our engagement with the artworks we interpret and the ones we create, helping us become more strategic narrators.
